Mark Berry and Formula One designer select DJ Engineering Wing from The Tuners Group to take the Advan / Hi Octane Racing R34 GT-R to the next level

The Tuners Group is very pleased to announce that Mark Berry's Advan / Hi Octane Racing R34 GT-R will be running one of our high downforce pre-preg carbon fibre DJ Engineering rear wings at the 2011 World Time Attack Challenge.

DJ Engineering wings are designed by world renowned wing designer and highly respected aerodynamics and racing author Simon McBeath, and are used by highly respected and championship winning teams including Lotus Motorsport (the factory Lotus motorsport department), Prodrive, RLR MSport, Juno (DJ wings are standard fitment on all Juno's), and Matech (Matech were the FIA GT3 Champions in 2008 and FIA GT3 Championship Runners Up in 2009).

The DJ Engineering wing was selected for the R34 by Mark and an independent Formula One designer and aerodynamicist who is working with Mark's team this year, following a rigorous wing selection process which involved analysis of a number of wings from different manufacturers. So we are delighted that the DJ Engineering wing has been selected as the winner of that selection process.

Mark's R34 will be running a pre-preg carbon fibre DJ Engineering SM203 Dual Element High Downforce rear wing (shown above).

CFD test results of this wing's profile revealed that at a span width of 2100 mm, at 100 mph / 160.93 kph the SM203 dual element wing produces a massive 2285 Newtons of downforce (approx 233 kg force / 513 lb force) ... an incredible amount of downforce at just 100 mph.

The width of the wing that Mark's car will be running is not being disclosed at this stage.

This year the car is undergoing some major changes with the aero design to assist with more downforce, which is why we have chosen the SM203 dual element wing.

We have found the downforce loads of the SM203 dual element will complement the total package of the cars new aero package.

"During testing of Mark's car for last year's 2010 World Time Attack Challenge, it became clear that the R34 needed more downforce to be able to go faster.

So soon after the 2010 World Time Attack Challenge, The Tuners Group went on a worldwide search for a range of wings that could meet the downforce requirements of our Time Attack customers in particular, but also all our other racing customers.

That search led us to Simon McBeath who is the designer of the DJ Engineering wings, and soon after we were appointed as the exclusive national representatives for DJ Engineering.

Full scale wind tunnel testing of the DJ Engineering wings has been carried out on real race cars in the MIRA Wind Tunnel, as well as extensive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of Simon McBeath's wing profiles used on the DJ Engineering wings.

When we saw the test data for the DJ Engineering high downforce wings, we could see instantly why they are chosen by so many winning teams ... they produced the highest levels of downforce of any racecar wing we have ever tested.

DJ Wings are manufactured using Formula One quality pre-preg carbon fibre in mirror polished CNC'd billet high temperature aluminium molds. Add to that the fact that the DJ Engineering wings are made from genuine pre-preg carbon fibre in CNC machined aluminium molds for dimensional accuracy, light weight and high strength, and the attention to detail and craftsmanship by DJ Engineering in the manufacturing process, and we knew we had found a range of wings that could take our customers cars and the cars we sponsor to the next level.

We're very pleased that Mark Berry and his Formula One aerodynamicist have selected one of our DJ Engineering wings for the car.

A number of other time attack teams will also be running our DJ Engineering wings at the 2011 World Time Attack Challenge, and there has been great interest from racers in circuit racing, tarmac rally, hillclimbing, rallying, track days and time attack racing.

With prices starting at just £995 for a DJ wing, not only can top level teams get international GT racing aero technology onto their cars extremely affordably, but also the range of DJ wings is also very affordable for weekend racers, privateers and track day competitors.

It's no secret that we want to see the World Time Attack Challenge trophy won by an Australian team beating the fastest time attack cars on the planet, so we are very pleased to have found a way to deliver the high levels of downforce that the top Australian teams need to take on the overseas cars.
